On Saturday, our neighborhood park re-opened, after a lengthy renovation. Rolph Park was named for a former San Francisco mayor, James "Sunny Jim" Rolph, who grew up in the Mission District. Sunny Jim was mayor for 18 years, resigning in 1931 to become Governor of California. Then he died, in 1934. Our current mayor came by to say a few words (sidebar: How do you know you're getting older? When the mayor is your age - Newsom is exactly two days younger than me). Tom Ammiano and our neighbor Leora Vestel also stepped up to the mic. Later, Amy introduced Gavin to our niece Bridget. The two talked about learning French at Notre Dame de Victoire (Newsom attended for a couple of years; Bridget is a current student there). Tech Notes: I shot this with my Panasonic in the DVCPRO50 format, which takes up twice as much hard drive space as DV, and hopefully looks better.
